News - 2002

December 31, 2002

Emily (Ch. Gleanntan Grandxpose) had another very good year, completing the year as the #1 Skye Terrier bitch in the United States and #3 Skye overall (breed points). When Gleanntan Kennels, Reg. cofounder, Donna C. Dale, unexpectedly passed away in March, 2001, her loss left a void in our hearts and in our lives. I (Michael) made the decision to honor Donna's memory by returning her beloved and beautiful Emily to the show ring. After some conditioning and training, Emily returned in late May, 2001. She completed the year as the #1 Skye Terrier bitch and #3 overall. In 2002, Emily gave us more than we could have imagined. Campaigning a female Skye in top competition throughout the country is not an easy task for a host of reasons. To have been able to work with this exquisite Skye and to bring her to this level is my tribute to my mentor.

Michael (Ch. Gleanntan Gee Whillikers) - In very limited showing, Michael completed the year the #1 Skye Terrier (Dog News System and #2 Skye Terrier in the United States in group points and #7 Skye Terrier in breed points. Michael is professionally conditioned, handled and very loved by Lisa Bettis.

As we reflect on 2002, we have much to be thankful for. We are thankful to have been able to pursue our passion with good health and we are eternally thankful to the devoted owners of our Skyes. We are also thankful to the professional handlers, Lisa and Mark Bettis and Nicole Conner, who expertly brought Skye Terriers to new audiences in shows throughout the United States. We wish all of our friends a very happy, healthy and successful 2003!

October 14, 2002 - More News from Denmark

Tina Toft Anderson reports: Yesterday we were at a club show with 800 entries and DJ (Gleanntan Grand Musicmaker) went Best of Breed!! He defeated two champion males, a young male and a champion female. The judge was Danish Mr. Svend Loevenkjaer and he was amazed with him. So DJ has his first CAC of which he needs three to become a Danish champion. Though our rules says that Skyes first can become a champion when they are 18 months. DJ is allowed to win many CACs before he becomes 18 months. It is the first time in Denmark that a 9 month old Skye wins the breed.
