As we reflect on the
past year, we have much to be thankful for. We are eternally
grateful to the wonderful owners of our Skyes who continue to
inspire us with their devotion to the breed. In 2003, we worked
hard to present our dogs to a high standard in national
competition and to introduce the breed to newcomers.
Our leading Skye in
2003 was Ch. Gleanntan Gotitxactlyrite - "Arnie". Arnie finished
the year as the #1 Skye Terrier in the U.S. and is the winner of
the Pedigree Award. Seven Skyes carrying the Gleanntan prefix
completed their AKC championships in 2003. Two earned their
final majors by going Winners Bitch from the Bred by Exhibitor
class at regional and national specialty shows. A third was Best
of Winners during the Skye Terrier Club of America National
Specialty weekend. Our youngsters took Best in Sweepstakes at
the two regional specialty shows at the Potomac Skye Terrier
Club (Maryland) and at the Skye Terrier Club of Southern
California. Another of our Skyes won the Bred by Exhibitor group
competition at Great Western Terrier Association of Southern
California. Our beloved Ch. Gleanntan Grandxpose -"Emily"
competed in just one show in 2003 and took Best of Breed at the
Potomac Skye Terrier Club Specialty. Later in the year, Emily
presented us with a litter of puppies sired by Ch. Gleanntan Gee
Whillikers.
The next generation
of Gleanntan Skyes, including our promising Gleanntan Gaelic
Melody - "Keeleigh", will be starting in the ring in 2004. Also
in 2004, Ch. Gleanntan Gotitxactlyrite - "Arnie" will be
professionally campaigned by Lisa and Mark Bettis.

December 15, 2003 - Delaware Water Gap & Lehigh Valley KC shows
Our 2003 season of
showing concluded this past weekend in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
These two shows are always enjoyable with the festive atmosphere
of the holiday season. We are pleased to report that our Skyes
met with some success as well - Ch. Gleanntan Gotitxactlyrite
- "Arnie" took Best of Breed both days and earned a Group 4
placement on Saturday under judge Mrs. Karen C. Wilson.
Gleanntan Gettin' Busy - "Ellie" took Winners Bitch and Best
of Opposite Sex from the 12 to 18 month class on Saturday for 2
points.
December 9, 2003 - Greater Hickory KC & Forsyth KC shows
Maida and I were at
three shows this past weekend in Winston-Salem, North Carolina -
the Greater Hickory KC and Forsyth KC shows. Ch. Gleanntan
Gotitxactlyrite - "Arnie" took Best of Breed the three days
and earned a Group 3 placement on Friday under judge Mr. Frank
Sabella and a Group 4 placement on Saturday under judge Mrs.
Karen C. Wilson. Gleanntan Gettin' Busy - "Ellie" took
Winners Bitch and Best of Opposite Sex on Friday and Saturday
and Gleanntan Guardian Angel - "Gertie" took Winners
Bitch and Best of Opposite Sex on Sunday under judge Lenora
Riddle. Gertie is owned and adored by Judith Fatzinger.
On Saturday,
following Best in Show competition, the Carolina Terrier
Association held its second annual terrier puppy match. We
entered 4-month old Gleanntan Gaelic Melody - "Keeleigh"
in the 3 to 6 month class. Keeleigh had a fun time being a
puppy, sometimes walking nicely on lead and other times not.
Yes, working with the youngsters keeps you humble - but it is
greatly rewarding as you envision their promise and potential.
Here are a couple of photos of Keeleigh.

Here are a couple of
photos from recent shows. The first is of Ch. Gleanntan Going
South - "Rebel" on the occasion of his attaining his AKC
Championship. The photo is dark, but I decided to include it
here as it does convey what we admire in this dog. Rebel has
beautiful length of body, length of neck, and head - exceptional
balance. Rebel was handled to this Best of Winners win by Maida.

The second photo is
of Ch. Gleanntan Gotitxactlyrite - "Arnie" taken after
his Group 3 placement at the Back Mountain KC show. The judge is
Mrs. Sue Weiss.

At the Penn Treaty

the cut in the group both days.
November 10, 2003
Maida, Roxan and I
were at three shows this past weekend on the beautiful Eastern
Shore of Maryland. Here is a summary of our weekend:
On Friday, November
7, Ch. Gleanntan Gotitxactlyrite - "Arnie" took Best of
Breed under breeder/judge Sandra Goose Allen and then went on to
a Group 4 placement under judge Frank Sabella. The groups on
this weekend were quite strong with Group 1 going to the Coco,
the remarkable #1 Norfolk; Group 2 to the #1 Scottie; Group 3 to
the #3 Smooth Fox Terrier.
On Saturday,
November 8, Ch. Gleanntan Gotitxactlyrite - "Arnie" again
took Best of Breed under judge Enrique Jorge Filippini from
Argentina. In the classes, Gleanntan Guardian Angel - "Gertie"
(Ch. Gleanntan Greatxplorer x Ch. Sonsie Aida) made her return
to the ring in her first show weekend in seven months. She took
Winners Bitch (3-point major) from the Bred by Exhibitor class,
handled by Michael. Gertie is owned by Judy Fatzinger &
Gleanntan.
On Sunday, November
9, Ch. Gleanntan Gotitxactlyrite - "Arnie" took Best of
Breed under judge Alice Watkins and then went on to another
Group 4 placement under judge Sandra Goose Allen. Group 1 went
to Coco; Group 2 to the Smooth Fox Terrier; Group 3 to the #2
Bedlington.
Gleanntan Guardian Angel - "Gertie" took Winners Bitch &
Best of Opposite Sex to her uncle from the Bred by Exhibitor
class for her second major 3-point major.
November 1, 2003 - Another Group 3 placement for Arnie
At the Back Mountain
Kennel Club show in Bloomsburg, PA, Ch. Gleanntan
Gotitxactlyrite took a Group 3 under judge Mrs. Sue Weiss.
As is often the case as we approach the end of the year, the
terrier group competition was strong. Group 1 went to the #1
Wire and Group 2 went to the #3 Smooth Fox who was Best in Show
the day before. Group 4 went to the #3 Colored Bull Terrier. We
were the only owner/handled terrier in the placements. At the
Bald Eagle KC show the day before, Arnie took the breed and
Ellie - Gleanntan Gettin' Busy took Winners Bitch for
another point.
October 18-19, 2003 - Back-to-Back Group 3 placements
Maida, Roxan and I
were at the Upper Potomac Kennel Club shows this weekend in
beautiful, scenic Western Maryland. While this is not a huge
show in terms of total entry, the group competition is always
fierce as the end of the year approaches. On Saturday, Ch.
Gleanntan Gotitxactlyrite took a Group 3 under judge Mr. D.
Roy Holloway. Group 1 went to the #1 Wire in the U.S. handled by
Peter Green, and Group 2 went to the #1 Amstaff in the U.S.,
handled by John McCartney. On Sunday, Ch. Gleanntan
Gotitxactlyrite took another Group 3, this time under judge
Denny Mounce. Group 1 again went to the Wire and Group 2 went to
the #1 Norwich in the U.S.. We are proud to say that we were the
#1 owner/handled terrier both days!
Also, on Saturday,
Gleanntan Going South - "Rebel"
earned the final point for his AKC Championship. We started
working with this young dog just one year ago. He had earned 1
point from the Puppy class 2001 and then took some time off from
the show ring. Rebel returned to the ring in August, 2003 and
completed his AKC championship in just 10 shows over a period of
just over two months.
October 12, 2003 - Gleanntan Stargazer Lily takes Terrier Puppy
Group 1
At the Catonsville
Kennel Club show yesterday, Gleanntan Stargazer Lily
competed in the Terrier Puppy Group and earned a Group 1.
October 6, 2003 - Skye Terrier Club of America National
Specialty Weekend
Skye Terrier
fanciers look forward to the national specialty weekend at
Montgomery County Kennel Club with great anticipation. There are
many reasons to attend this seminal weekend in the Philadelphia
area. The weekend provides an opportunity to see the very best
examples of Skyes from breeders across the United States. While
the weekend is intense, information is shared and friendships
are forged and strengthened.
Going into these
shows, one can never predict what the outcome will be. The best
you can do is to prepare your Skyes to the best of your ability,
show them to the best of your ability, and then hope that your
Skye(s) will be considered favorably by the judges. Any single
win on this weekend, is considered to be a great honor.
We are indeed
honored and proud of the showing of our Skye Terriers during
this weekend. Here is a summary of our accomplishments. Photos
will be added when they are received.

The Spring season is getting underway and we had a few of our
Skyes entered at the Western Pennsylvania Kennel Association
shows in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this weekend.
Gleanntan Gottahavitall - "Mitchell" - owned by
Rosemary Hodgins & Gleanntan, in his first shows in over a year,
went Reserve Winners Dog both days. Gleanntan Goodness
Triumphs -"Daisy", in her first shows since the middle of
December, went Winners Bitch and Best of Opposite Sex each day,
from the Bred-by Exhibitor class. Ch. Gleanntan
Gotitxactlyrite - "Arnie"
owned by Gleanntan and shown by owner Roxan Rohrich, took Best

April 3, 2003 - DJ Rocking & Rolling in Denmark
News on Gleanntan Grand Musicmaker - "DJ" from owner Tina
Toft Andersen: This (past) weekend we were at two Club shows
in Denmark and I'm happy to announce that DJ did very well. Both
days he won the CAC, which actually means he has those 3 CAC's
that he needs to become a Danish Champion. But our shows rules
requires that a Skye first can be champion at 18 months of age,
so we have to wait for that. He was reserve male both days, just
beaten by a Champion, but DJ himself also beat champion males
when the judges placed the best males. In our honor ring, we
have a competition for the best junior dogs, between 9 - 18
months and on Saturday, DJ went BIS 1 by the English judge Frank
Jones. There was almost a full line up of the 32 breeds in the
Danish Terrier Club, so it was a great win. The day after, he
was BIS 3 by judge Elke Peper, Germany.

owned by Jack & Roxie Harkins & Gleanntan, is the number

December 31, 2002 - Emily & Michael
Michael (Ch.
Gleanntan Gee Whillikers) - In very limited showing, Michael
completed the year the #1 Skye Terrier (Dog News System and
#2 Skye Terrier in the United States in group points and #7 Skye
Terrier in breed points. Michael is professionally conditioned,
handled and very loved by Lisa Bettis.
Emily (Ch. Gleanntan
Grandxpose) had another very good year, completing the year as
the #1 Skye Terrier bitch in the United States and #3 Skye overall
(breed points). When Gleanntan Kennels, Reg. cofounder, Donna
C. Dale, unexpectedly passed away in March, 2001, her loss left a
void in our hearts and in our lives. I (Michael) made the decision
to honor Donna's memory by returning her beloved and beautiful Emily
to the show ring. After some conditioning and training, Emily
returned in late May, 2001. She completed the year as the #1 Skye
Terrier bitch and #3 overall. In 2002, Emily gave us more than we
could have imagined. Campaigning a female Skye in top competition
throughout the country is not an easy task for a host of reasons. To
have been able to work with this exquisite Skye and to bring her to
this level is my tribute to my mentor.
