February 20 - President’s Day Nursing Home Visit

Today's President's Day holiday offered a day off from work. We were invited to participate in a Chambersburg KC group visit to a local nursing home. I joined the group with two freshly bathed and groomed Skye Terrier good-will ambassadors - 10.5-year old "Dexter" - GCHS. Dexter Jetser Bohemia Skywalker and 22-month old "Ellie" - CH. Gleanntan My Fair Lady. We started our visit in the community room where about 20 residents visited with the Skyes and 5 other dogs. Then we went in smaller groups to the second floor memory unit where we were enthusiastically welcomed by about 30 residents sitting in chairs outside of their rooms. Dexter and Ellie could not have been better behaved - they loved the attention. I explained to our hosts that all they had to do was rub Dexter's head and behind his ears and he would settle in for an extended visit. Ellie was her usual happy self - always happy to receive attention. I brought copies of the Potomac Piper newsletter and our Skye brochure for the residents. Thank you to Suzanne Benchoff for the invitation!

February 8 - Six Gleanntan Skyes Participate in the 2023 AKC Meet the Breeds Event in NYC

What a wonderful day we had at the 2023 AKC Meet the Breeds event at the Javits Center in New York City. Once again this year, the Skye Terrier Club of America participated in the AKC Meet the Breeds event. Our Skye representatives were as follows: 10.5-year old Dexter, 4-year old Albert, 3-year old Cami, 21-month old litter sisters, Juneau and Ellie and 1-year old Hope. Based on my observations the crowds were as large as the last time this event was held in 2020. The lovely “I Just Met a Skye Terrier” glossy, round stickers that we created for the kids were a big hit!

Thanks to Sue Chandler, Lynne Kuczynski Veazie and Ashley Burnside for all your help!

Below are photos taken by Maida Connor.

Introducing Gleanntan’s new website! This website was started just over one year ago - at about the same time that singelton pup “Hope” was born. The site was created entirely in Squarespace. The original Gleanntan website went live in June, 2002 - over 20 years ago. For nearly every year in the past 20+ years, the site was updated with the activities of Gleanntan. Over 20 years of content has been brought over from the original website to this new site. We hope that you enjoy visiting!
